About the museum
The museum is dedicated to the roe deer, one of the emblematic animals of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, and was opened on 2 May 2010, when the wildlife area reserved for the species reopened. It is located along Strada Provinciale 17, which within the town is called Via Roma, and is run as a visitor centre by the association Montagna Grande.
The exhibition describes the animal's characteristics, habits and evolution through scientific documents, information panels, dioramas, a stuffed specimen and casts of footprints found in the Park. Films about the Park's animals are also shown, mainly for school and scout groups.
In the outdoor area a short path leads to a wildlife enclosure where roe deer live in semi-freedom. Other nature and historical-cultural trails allow walks or mountain bike rides towards the Valle della Fossa and the Valle delle Prata, on the Montagna Grande range.
