About the museum
The Centro verde is housed in a former school building at the entrance to the village of Ortona dei Marsi, in the Giovenco valley. The building was renovated and adapted by the municipality together with the Park authority (Ente Parco). It is now one of the reference points in the Marsica for visits to the Parco nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, and is frequented by school groups, scout groups and hikers.
Inside, the Ente Parco, in collaboration with the municipal administration and the entomologist Enrico Migliaccio, created Entoma, an insect documentation centre. In the room dedicated to Amalia Taglieri are kept some of the Park’s historic insect collections, around 400 boxes, including the collection of P. Luigioni, rich in beetles, and those of C. Prola and V. and S. Olivieri, important for the knowledge of day and night butterflies and moths.
Along the route leading to the collections room there is a permanent photographic exhibition by Angelina Iannarelli, with images of insects arranged systematically, from the most primitive orders to the most evolved. The centre also has a conference room for screenings and meetings, used also by local institutions and associations.
