About the museum
The Museo del Fiume in Nazzano aims to illustrate the river ecosystem in all its aspects, through rooms dedicated to geology, botany, zoology and human activities along the Tiber. Its approach is strongly educational, with microscopes, aquariums, films and dioramas. It stands at the foot of the ancient Savelli castle, near the Tevere-Farfa nature reserve.
The displays include a natural history section, an archaeology section in the basement, created by acquiring some ancient caves beneath the building, a room for temporary exhibitions and a multipurpose hall. The archaeology section presents finds and fossils from Nazzano and the middle Tiber valley, with particular reference to the area of Lucus Feroniae, of which Nazzano was part.
