About the museum

The museum is housed in a typical courtyard farmhouse that belonged to the Serra family, on the main road towards Guasila, and documents the long tradition of cultivating cereals and durum wheat in the Trexenta. Many of the objects on display were donated by villagers. It is run by the Su Corongiu company.

The rooms are organised around traditional men’s and women’s work: fieldwork, bread-making and weaving. Among the most significant pieces is a wooden millstone. The route also includes a 1960s film by the Danish researcher Weis Bentzon on the sowing, processing and harvesting of wheat, and a section dedicated to the launeddas player Dionigi Burranca, who lived in Ortacesus and died there in 1995.

The guided tour ends with a tasting of traditional Trexenta breads, and the museum offers educational workshops on bread, adobe bricks and taste.
