About the museum
The MADN, Museo archeologico Domu Nosta, is in the historic centre of Senorbì, in a complex of buildings centred on an ancient two-storey house with a wide loggia. In the early 20th century the building was acquired by the Cagliari notary Arturo Carmelita, who used it as home and office; in the early 1980s the municipality bought it and converted it into a museum to house the grave goods of the Monte Luna – Santu Teru necropolis. A later extension added the Mediateca, where most events take place.
The route is divided into six sections. The first tells the millennia-long history of Senorbì; the next two present the discovery of the Monte Luna necropolis, where between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC the inhabitants of the Santu Teru hill were buried, with rich grave goods showing contacts with Egyptian and Greek cultures. The third room houses large transport amphorae from the necropolis; the fourth the marble inscription of Marcus Arrecinus Aelius, from the early Roman imperial period.
The fifth room is usually reserved for temporary displays, while the last is dedicated to the Mother Goddess idol found in 1935 at Turriga. The museum’s activities include guided visits, educational workshops, presentations, exhibitions and events, with particular attention to local schools.
