About the museum
The Museo del grano was set up in 1992 by the historical studies association “Daunia Sud”, founded by the lawyer Michele D’Emilio. Today it is housed in the recently restored complex of the former Opera Pia Monte Fornari, in Piano San Rocco, at the corner with Via XXV Aprile, in Cerignola.
It is an ethnographic museum devoted exclusively to the cycle of wheat cultivation, an activity on which much of the local economy is based. The route documents all the stages of processing: stubble burning, ploughing, sowing, threshing, storage and milling, with the tools arranged by stage. Large millstones of lava stone from the Roman period are also on display.
The museum consists of five rooms: four for exhibitions and one for meetings. The first is dedicated to Michele D’Emilio and the second to Vittorio Napolitano.
