About the museum
The Museo delle donne valdesi is located in the locality of Serre di Angrogna and belongs to the museum system of the Fondazione Centro Culturale Valdese. It presents itself as a symbolic place and a memorial dedicated to Waldensian women in history, and stresses in particular their familiarity with the Bible and the position of the Waldensian world within Protestantism, between local life and international openness.
The route unfolds in a single room. Movable panels document the everyday life of Waldensian women between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, from the wet nurse to the schoolteacher, from the factory worker to the emigrant, up to the missionary and the deaconess. On the walls, the biographies of Protestant women from the Middle Ages to the modern era are displayed, from the Reformation to English Puritanism, from Huguenot resistance in France to the American suffrage movement. Images from the recent history of the Waldensian Church (Chiesa valdese) and photographs of women today complete the visit.
