About the museum
The Museo del Minatore in Buggerru opened in 2004 to commemorate the Moti di Buggerru (the Buggerru miners’ revolt) of 1904. It is located in a building that originally housed a mechanical workshop and a carpentry shop; the restoration left the lathe and milling machines in their original positions. During the uprising of 1904, the miners used the building as a meeting place.
On the ground floor is the civic museum dedicated to the history of the village. The mining section recreates the typical settings of the mine and displays period tools and machinery. Minerals and local fossils are shown in display cases, while teaching panels, historical documents and photographs on the walls guide the visitor.
On the first floor, a multimedia route tells the story of the men and women who worked and lived in the mine.
