About the museum
The museum is set up in an original farmhouse (casa colonica), where the rooms of a patriarchal peasant family have been reconstructed to present objects of rural tradition from the Reggio countryside: from the kitchen to the bedroom, from the cowshed to the hayloft, and including the cheese-making rooms and the cellars. The objects are handmade goods and farm tools that were in use until the 1950s.
The route is completed by the old cheese dairy (casello), still well preserved, and by an exhibition of almost forty gigs, carriages and farm carts, some of them finely inlaid, used between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries for work in the fields and for social life. Nearby, two historic cheese dairies can be visited: one from the 18th century, heated by an open wood fire, and a more recent one with steam.
