About the museum
The Patrimonium museum occupies the first floor and basement of the 15th-century Palazzo della Comunità in Sutri, seat of the town administration until 1800, which also houses the historical archive and the library. Sutri was an episcopal see from 465 and an important medieval stop on the road to Rome.
The first room presents paintings from the church of San Francesco and frescoes from the church of Santa Fortunata, including a fresco from the early 13th century depicting Pope Innocent III, and a processional banner attributed to Eugenio Agneni. In the basement, sculptures and inscriptions from the Roman, early medieval and Romanesque periods are displayed. The last section presents historical documents and fragments of manuscript codices from the 11th–16th centuries, kept in the municipal historical archive.
The best-known work is the Ephebe of Sutri, a bronze statue from the proto-imperial age, found in Sutri in 1912, which depicts a nude young man with his right hand on his head.
