About the museum
The museum stands opposite the Italian military shrine of Montelungo, on the other side of the via Casilina, in the municipality of Mignano Monte Lungo. The shrine, built on the eastern slopes of Monte Lungo, holds the remains of 974 Italian soldiers, most of whom fell in the battles of Montelungo and Cassino during the Second World War.
In the battle of 8–16 December 1943, regular Italian units fought the German army in the war of liberation of southern Italy. The small museum collects documents, photographs, relics and weapons from the period; outside, tanks and pieces of Italian and British artillery used in the fighting are on display.
