About the museum
The museum is next to the ridotto of the Teatro Civico in Vercelli, which opened in 1815 and was bought by the municipality in 1842. The theatre was destroyed by a fire in 1923 and reopened in 1931 with Verdi's Aida.
The museum traces the milestones and figures of the city's theatre tradition from the 1950s to today. It consists of three rooms, each dedicated to a figure who brought Vercelli's name to the world of art: the baritone Cesare Bardelli, the founder of the Concorso Viotti and the classical ballet dancer Pilar Sanpietro.
The collections include stage costumes, accessories and theatre jewellery, scores, librettos and posters from international theatres, signed and stage photographs, contracts, newspapers and magazines, ceramics, porcelain, paintings, cups and medals, as well as tape recordings, records, CDs and DVDs.
