About the museum
The museum is housed in a historic building in the centre of San Marcello and is run by the Municipality. The collection includes more than two hundred telephone sets, still working, which trace the history of the instrument from the first experimental devices that led to the invention of the telephone up to the present day.
The route features models from distant countries, such as Egypt, Sweden and Romania, wartime military telephones, telephones seen in films, and those used in hotels and workplaces, together with manual switchboards with operators and automatic exchanges. Among the rarest pieces is a battery-powered telephone from 1890, known as the “Ragno” (Spider), made by Ericsson.
