About the museum
The museum was founded in 1966 on the initiative of the bishop of the time, in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, with the aim of preserving the religious art of Jesi and the Vallesina and protecting it from theft. It was inaugurated on 13 November 1966. The planned venue, the church of San Nicolò, proved too small, and the works were housed in several rooms of Palazzo Ripanti Nuovo, formerly the seat of the diocesan seminary.
After the renovation work completed in 1983, the route was arranged in nine rooms. Since 1990 a space for contemporary works of art has also been planned.
The collection comprises about two hundred pieces, including paintings, sculptures, reliquaries, ex-votos and liturgical furnishings. The entrance is through the Sala Valeri, decorated with large 18th-century canvases, which also hosts concerts and lectures.
