About the museum
Frederick II of Swabia was born in Jesi on 26 December 1194. According to tradition, his mother Constance of Hauteville gave birth to him in a tent set up in the cathedral square, at the spot where Palazzo Ghislieri now stands. For this reason the city has dedicated a museum to the emperor in the palazzo that overlooks the same square.
The route unfolds through sixteen thematic rooms that tell of his birth, his ancestors, the crown of Sicily, the empire, the castles, the relationship with the papacy, the crusade, the Lombard League, falconry, culture, his legacy and the myth of Frederick.
The display is based on interactive installations, 3D animations and multimedia content, with reconstructions of buildings and costumes.
