About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Andrea Baraldini, a farmer of Mantuan origin who had moved to the province of Bergamo and who, in the 1980s, began collecting tools and objects of a rural world that was disappearing. The collection was joined by household furniture, toys, cabinetwork and the tools of craftsmen: carpenter, carder, blacksmith, shoemaker, saddler and other trades.
Over two decades Baraldini assembled more than two thousand pieces, and the municipal administration decided to look for a suitable venue: a disused factory along the entrance avenue to the village was acquired and, after renovation, became the museum. Since 2007 the collection has been recognised by Regione Lombardia as a “Raccolta Museale” (museum collection), and it preserves evidence of peasant civilisation from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The venue has a covered area of 300 m² and two outdoor areas for the largest objects: carts, gigs, ploughs, harrows and a military field kitchen. Students and scholars can consult a library and a periodicals collection on the history of agriculture, an archive of documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, a photographic collection and an audiovisual collection. One space is reserved for periodic thematic exhibitions, designed especially for school classes.
