About the museum
The Abbey of Casamari stands in the valley of the River Amaseno, in the territory of Veroli. Founded by Benedictine monks in the 11th century, it passed to the Cistercian order at the beginning of the 13th century, which restored and enlarged it: today it is one of the best-preserved Gothic-Cistercian monuments in Italy.
The museum, open to the public since 2003, is an archaeological collection from the Roman period. Among the finds are elephant tusks found in the surroundings of the abbey, arrowheads, daggers, terracotta ex voto, male portraits and small sculptural groups, from the area of ancient Cereatae Marianae.
The rooms also contain a collection of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
