About the museum
The museum was founded in 1959 by Pietro Fedele, then mayor of Pofi, but was opened to the public only in March 2001. It presents the life of prehistoric populations in southern Lazio, with reconstructions of the environment, the animals and everyday life over about a million years.
The most famous find is the skull of the Man of Ceprano, known as Argil, discovered in 1994 by Professor Italo Biddittu and regarded as one of the oldest fossils displayed in Italian museums and among the oldest in Europe. Alongside it are about forty display cases with other finds from the area.
