About the museum
The museum is housed in an old mill in the centre of Villetta Barrea, dating from the second half of the 15th century and in operation until the 1950s. Restored several times over the centuries, it now houses the Museo dell'Acqua.
In the mill section, a life-size reproduction uses the original wooden hopper and millstones. On the upper floor, a display is dedicated to wool processing and the ancient practice of transhumance. A painted route and the panels in the central room lead visitors through the wetlands and the large natural and artificial lakes. A diorama of a river environment with the rarest aquatic animals of the Parco d'Abruzzo is particularly striking.
