About the museum
The Museo dell'Artigianato Valdostano di Tradizione (MAV) was inaugurated on 24 January 2009 in Villa Montana, a short distance from the castle of Fénis. It is run by L'Artisanà, the organisation that promotes traditional crafts in the Aosta Valley.
The collection comprises around 800 everyday objects and sculptures that tell the story and the present of the crafts of an alpine agro-pastoral community. The original display did without showcases, in order to highlight the raw material, technique, type and use of the artefacts.
In 2022 the route was renewed and arranged into thematic areas devoted to memory, material, form, gesture, avant-garde and beauty. The section on memory presents the entire Brocherel collection. The museum is also a place of meeting, cultural promotion, education and research.
