About the museum
The Planetarium of Rome is located in EUR, in Piazza Giovanni Agnelli, in the building of the Museo della Civiltà Romana, and is part of the Musei in Comune system of Roma Capitale.
The projection hall has 98 reclining seats arranged in three concentric rings beneath a dome 14 metres in diameter, which serves as a hemispherical screen of about 300 square metres. The 4K images are projected by two laser projectors; the Sky Explorer software simulates a virtual universe with celestial motions, three-dimensional flights over the planets and the evolution of stars and galaxies.
The planetarium’s astronomers also offer routes such as “Astri in Comune”, a ten-stop virtual itinerary through the city’s museums that links works of art to the sky, and “Il cielo dal balcone”, a series of audio guides to stars and constellations. The website has a section for schools, university students and teachers.
