Parco Tematico & Museo dell'Aviazione «G. Casolari»

Open-air aviation museum on the hill of Rimini with more than forty Cold War aircraft, including MiGs and Sukhois, and a museum of model aircraft.

Opening hoursAdmission €12

About the museum

The aviation museum was founded in 1988 as an aeronautical museum devoted to the Cold War. The collection was formed after the fall of the Berlin Wall, when the countries of the former Soviet sphere retired their aircraft. It focuses on aircraft of the Eastern bloc, such as MiGs and Sukhois, alongside their NATO counterparts.

The theme park, a private non-profit structure, opened in 1995 on an area of almost eight hectares and is named after Commander Gianfranco Casolari, who founded the Centro Studi sulla Linea Gialla together with Amedeo Montemaggi. In 2009 the Istituto per i beni culturali (Institute for Cultural Heritage) recognised the museum with the status of “Museo di qualità” (quality museum).

The museum displays more than forty aircraft, service vehicles, missile and anti-aircraft systems, and piston and jet engines. The main pavilion holds uniforms and flight suits of Italian pilots, together with memorabilia, photographs and medals; the Museo dell’Aeromodellismo storico has a tethered-flight track and record-breaking models. An app allows visitors to consult the technical data sheets of the aircraft, also via QR code.
