About the museum
The Museo della Casa alla Fasanese is an old dwelling in the historic centre of Fasano, in Piazza Mercato Vecchio, behind the Town Hall. The house dates back to the 16th century, was over time incorporated into the Palazzo Pezzolla and survived the demolition at the end of the 18th century, when the present square was opened.
In July 2010 the cultural association “U’mbracchie” was founded, dedicated to the regeneration of the old town; in December of the same year the Comune di Fasano entrusted the house to it, to make it a tourist reception point and a place to promote the architectural distinctiveness of local homes. After cleaning, arrangement and furnishing work, the museum opened to the public on 17 July 2011.
The casa alla fasanese is a tuff building dating from the late 16th century, notable for its rational use of space: it includes the sala (main room), accessible directly from the street, the alcova (the parents' sleeping area, closed off by a curtain when needed), the camerino (small room for the children) and the mezzanino, reached by a movable wooden staircase. The rooms are furnished with everyday objects and tools from times past.
