About the museum
The museum opened on 25 April 2009 in Sperongia, a hamlet of Morfasso in the Val d'Arda, an area where the first Piacenza partisan bands were formed and where the Garibaldi-Bersani division later operated. It was founded on the initiative of the Province of Piacenza, the Comunità montana delle valli del Nure e dell'Arda (mountain community) and the municipality of Morfasso, with the collaboration of ISREC, ANPI and the diocese. It is run by a volunteer association, the Amici del Museo della Resistenza Piacentina (Friends of the Museum of the Piacenza Resistance).
The site, in a strategic location on the border with the Parma area, preserves the memory of partisans and civilians who fell, and recalls in particular the massacres at the Passo dei Guselli and the Rocchetta di Morfasso. The display, covering about 60 square metres on two floors, presents panels on the partisan commanders, the clandestine anti-fascist network, the first bands, and the role of foreigners, women and priests, together with memorabilia and clothing from the partisan war.
On the first floor there is a panel on deportation, photographs, a touchscreen with a map of the places of the partisan war, period films with interviews with survivors, and terminals for consulting the register of Piacenza partisans, which lists more than 6,000 names. The association also organises walks on the partisan trails and film series.
