About the museum
The Museo multimediale occitano is an institution of the municipality of Guardia Piemontese, a Calabrian village of Waldensian origin where guardiolo, a variety of Occitan, is still spoken. The museum opened on 22 January 2011 and tells the history and culture of the Guardiolo community through videos and reports.
The multimedia route illustrates the history and culture of Occitan in Europe, in Italy and in the municipal area. The building comprises a library of books and multimedia material, an exhibition room, a teaching room and a lecture hall.
The library has a section on Calabria’s three historic linguistic minorities, the Occitan, Grecanic and Albanian communities; visitors can consult the texts on site.
