About the museum
The Museo della civiltà contadina di Scido is housed in Palazzo Ruffo, a building from 1875 that also houses the municipal library “Paolo Greco”. It displays material evidence of old trades that have now disappeared: tools, cauldrons and old iron implements.
Inside, visitors can see an old stone oil mill with a large water-driven wheel from the early decades of the 20th century, still in working order. The museum also holds archaeological and numismatic finds, antique furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, and ethnoanthropological items, including fine garments and collections of terracotta objects.
One room is devoted to pipes: over two hundred pieces made by Mastro Rocco De Giglio, most of them shaped like animals or human figures, with thematic display cases on birds, mammals, reptiles, prehistoric animals and the faces of well-known figures.
