About the museum
The Pinacoteca “Leonida e Albertina Repaci” is set up on the ground floor of the Casa della Cultura “Leonida Repaci” in Palmi, a building of over 2,000 square metres whose construction began in 1968 on the initiative of the Comune and the Ministry of Public Works, and which was inaugurated in January 1982. The municipal library, a section of the Archivio di Stato and other civic collections are also housed in the same complex.
The core of the collection consists of over two hundred works donated to the city by the writer from Palmi, Leonida Repaci (1898–1985), and his wife Albertina. The holdings include paintings and sculptures by Italian and foreign masters of the 19th and 20th centuries, and are regarded as one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art in southern Italy.
In 2014 the collection was enriched with several valuable paintings that had belonged to the senator Emilio Argiroffi and were donated to the Comune by his sister.
