About the museum
The museum is housed in the former church of Santa Caterina, in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Montechiaro Alto, and holds the tools used in the fields, vineyards, stables and cellars from the second half of the 19th century to the 1960s.
The objects on display include ploughs, bottling machines, a hand harrow and a cocoon-reeling machine. One section is devoted to household objects: oil lamps, hand-made skis, wooden snowshoes, foot warmers and baskets. The collection also includes the old books of the Confraternita di Santa Caterina, lanterns and processional robes, as well as stones, tombstones and finds from the area of the destroyed castle.
The municipality also reports that, in the oratory of Sant’Antonio next to the parish church of San Giorgio, there is a museum room dedicated to the relic of the Sacre Spine (Holy Thorns), with paintings by Severino Baraldi and a copy of the Sindone (Shroud).
