About the museum

Villa Ottolenghi Wedekind is a historic residence built in the first half of the 20th century on the hills of Acqui Terme by Count Arturo Ottolenghi and his wife Herta von Wedekind zu Horst, a painter and sculptor close to the early-20th-century avant-gardes. In 1923 the couple bought an old house in the hamlet of Monterosso and entrusted the transformation of the whole hill into a vineyard-garden and woodland to a single architectural plan.

The complex is presented as a rare Italian example of close collaboration between architects, painters, sculptors and patrons to create a manor house with important works of art. The route includes the formal garden, the well, the studios, the large cistern, the graffiti, the wisteria pergola, the cellar and the Tempio di Herta, a circular mausoleum in Candoglia marble, more than 20 metres high and 18 metres wide.

Today the villa is also a relais with seven suites, a restaurant and a wine estate (BorgoMonterosso), but it can be visited with a guide who tells the story of its art, architecture and history.
