About the museum
The Museo della Ferrovia Spoleto-Norcia has a dual role: a cultural repository of the line’s history and a station for gentle mobility. The route of the railway has in fact been identified as a privileged axis of a network that also includes the Spoleto–Assisi cycle path and the Sentiero degli Ulivi (Olive Tree Trail).
The line was inaugurated on 1 November 1926 and ceased service permanently on 31 July 1968. The present display was created by S.S.I.T. in close collaboration with the Soprintendenza archivistica per l’Umbria (regional archival authority).
The exhibition includes various reproductions and, above all, documents, images and objects that belonged to the railway, coming largely from the archive of S.S.I.T. Gestione S.p.A. – SSIF and from the Basler family. All the objects belong to the Spoleto–Norcia line.
