About the museum
The museum opened in Troina on 1 October 2021 and is dedicated to the work of Robert Capa, war photographer and innovator of photojournalism. It is housed in the Palazzo Pretura in the historic centre, a few steps from Piazza Conte Ruggero.
The project grew out of a collaboration between the Fondazione Famiglia Pintaura and the Comune di Troina. The display was designed and curated by the creative studio Soul Design, after almost five years of work selecting the material and acquiring it from the International Center of Photography in New York.
The collection is titled “Fragments of War in Sicily” and comprises sixty-two fine prints made from the original negatives, most of them never published. The images document the battles, the destruction, the suffering of the civilian population and everyday life in the places invaded during the Second World War.
