About the museum
The diocesan museum was inaugurated on 26 May 2018 in the former monastery of San Biagio, once a convent of Benedictine nuns, in Nicosia. It occupies the monastery and the monumental church of San Biagio; the complex dates back to the Middle Ages and is certainly earlier than 1433.
The rooms hold sacred objects that once decorated churches or were used in the liturgy. Among the main works are 15th-century panels from the wooden ceiling of the cathedral, including a Saint Eligius, bishop, by Johannes De Matta (1536), The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew by Jusepe de Ribera and altarpieces by the Palermitan painter Giuseppe Velasco, made between 1772 and 1774.
