About the museum
The Museo della Guerra – Linea Gotica in Castel del Rio was founded in 1978 when some local residents, on an idea by Paolo Cenni, formed a volunteer association and began collecting war relics and materials found in the Santerno valley.
After the renovation of the Palazzo Alidosi, and thanks to contributions from the municipality, the Istituto dei Beni Culturali (regional heritage institute) and private donors, the museum now covers over 800 square metres. The sections are devoted to the First World War, the Second World War and the passage of the front through the valley, to partisan activity and to the deportation of citizens of Castel del Rio.
The collection numbers more than 1,600 pieces, some rare and valuable, and a thematic library of around 1,500 volumes, donated. The museum is run by the association that founded it.
