About the museum
The museum is housed in the former convent of Sant’Agostino in Pieve Torina, in the inland area of the province of Macerata, at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains. It is dedicated to the rural life of the area and to the memory of its traditions.
The route, recently renovated, is divided into fourteen thematic sections that carefully recreate the interiors of farmhouses and craft workshops, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rural life of the past. The reconstructions are complemented by immersive experiences and guided tours designed to bring the memory of the place to life. The museum was inaugurated in its renewed form on 25 January under the new direction of Antonella Marcaccini, who took over from Fernando Mattioni.
The museum also includes a satellite site, the Mulino di Fiume, a short distance from the village: an early medieval water mill built on a spur of rock over the Sant’Angelo stream, which retains its original structures and two stone millstones that still work thanks to the waterfall of the nearby pond. It tells the story of the miller’s day and was one of the five mills of the municipality.
