About the museum
The museum is accessible from inside the pieve of San Pietro Apostolo in Figline, a hamlet of Prato, an ancient church documented from 1183. It was set up in 1973 to preserve the finds from excavations carried out during the restoration of the pieve in the 1960s, when a 14th-century tomb and the remains of the apse of the original church were also rediscovered.
The first room, known as the Sala delle Ceramiche Figlinesi (Room of the Figline Ceramics), displays materials recovered beneath the presbytery and coming from a local 14th-century kiln, in particular basins and fragments of moulds for decorative stamping, together with paintings from the 15th to the 17th century. Among these are a panel with the Baptist by Bartolomeo Bocchi (around 1435), an altarpiece by Tommaso di Piero with the Madonna and Child and saints (1529), and a canvas by Giovan Pietro Naldini with the Giving of the Keys to Saint Peter (around 1630).
The Sala del Tesoro (Treasury Room) displays mainly objects from the church, including a 15th-century chalice with enamels and a 16th-century processional cross.
