About the museum
The museum is housed in the former church of San Defendente in Foglizzo and documents the broom industry that characterised the area between the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. It is part of the network of the Ecomuseo AMI (Anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea).
The permanent display presents tools and objects, with photographs and films, and illustrates the cultivation, harvesting and processing of broomcorn (saggina), the cereal from whose panicle brooms are made. It also explains the techniques used to make the different types of broom, called “ramasse” in the local dialect, and their uses.
