About the museum
The museum originated from an idea of the geographer Fernanda Gregoli in 1994, when a student’s thesis on the Valle Maira devoted a chapter to the local school. A group of teachers from the valley collected and catalogued school materials and documents, while the municipality of Stroppo provided the premises and funding. The museum opened in 1999.
It is located on the ground floor of the municipal building in Paschero and recreates a classroom furnished with period materials, including desks from the early 20th century, to trace the history of the mountain school from 1900 to 1970. The display is completed by a library of books from the late 19th century to the 1970s, report cards, teachers’ registers and photographs of school life in the past.
