About the museum
The Museo delle Acque opened in 2008 in the renovated caretaker's house of the medieval Conservoni of Monte Pacciano, within the Ecomuseo Colli del Tezio, north-east of Perugia. It offers a route on water as a fundamental resource for life, with interactive exhibits, projections and images of everyday uses of water.
The section De abundantia aquae is devoted to the history of Perugia's medieval aqueduct, a monumental engineering work designed to supply the acropolis with water. The Conservoni were where water was collected and stored before feeding the Fontana Maggiore. The museum shows their collecting structures and explains their role in the urban development of the city.
The aqueduct, around four kilometres long, was begun in 1254 and completed in 1280; it was decommissioned in 1835.
