About the museum
The Museo Farnetum was founded in 1992 as a research section of the municipal library of Fragneto Monforte. Residents donated objects that had belonged to their ancestors, and the research group made them accessible. In October 1994, on the occasion of the 9th International Hot-Air Balloon Rally, the museum had around 150 objects donated on a permanent basis and about thirty lent by private collectors.
The collection now comprises around 250 objects. Local farmers and craftspeople have built faithful reproductions of old tools to show younger visitors how fields and workshops functioned until just a few decades ago. The museum is working on the reconstruction of living and working spaces from the past; its website offers a virtual visit that includes, among other things, the barber’s shop.
