About the museum
The Museo delle Cere di Piacenza is located in the medieval village of Grazzano Visconti, in the municipality of Vigolzone, in the Val Nure, on Via Anna Visconti near the North car park. Its route moves through the centuries, wars and passions from the Etruscans to the modern age, presenting the art, culture and history of the Piacenza area with wax figures in historic settings.
The characters represented include Hannibal, Calpurnia, Saint Columban, Petrarch, Pope Paul III, Alessandro Farnese, Giulio Alberoni, Giovanni Paolo Pannini, Maria Luigia of Austria, Giuseppe Verdi, Virginia Zucchi and Edoardo Amaldi. Educational information sheets, also translated into English and prepared by the local historian Roberto Mori, accompany the route.
The scenes are completed by replicas of period objects, such as the so-called “Fegato etrusco” (Etruscan Liver) and the Gutturnium chalice, and by costumes made with the collaboration of film costume designer Stefano Nicolao.
