About the museum
The museum is part of Chianti Origo, the cultural hub opened in Gaiole in Chianti on 23 March 2024 in the former Ricasoli cellars. It represents the roots of the area and makes accessible, for the first time, a body of information and archaeological material.
The core collection comes from fifty years of continuous research by Florida State University at Cetamura, to which material from finds and excavations of the last century has been added, made available by private individuals and institutions, such as that from the Roman villa at Monti in Chianti and the necropolis of San Giusto a Rentennano.
The route, with multimedia installations, retells in a contemporary language the ancient history of the hills overlooking the valley of the Massellone stream, broadly corresponding to the municipal territory of Gaiole, from the Etruscan period to the Middle Ages. In the same complex are also Terre di Gaiole, devoted to the production of Chianti Classico, the Galleria Olmastroni and Casa Eroica, an interactive space on vintage cycling and the L’Eroica event.
