About the museum
The museum tells the story of the various pile-dwelling settlements that succeeded one another along the shores of Lake Carera between the late Neolithic and the Bronze Age. The pile-dwelling site of Fiavé, brought to light by research in the peat bog, is part of the “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps”, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and is an area of exceptional importance for the history of Europe’s first farming communities.
The museum is run by the Autonomous Province of Trento through its archaeological heritage offices. The building houses an exhibition hall and a teaching room on the ground floor and welcomes visitors with an archaeologist; guided participatory visits and workshops for families are planned.
The Parco Archeo Natura, in the nature reserve, is linked to the museum by a walk through meadows and cultivated fields and offers workshops on ancient techniques, such as working leather and bone, flint knapping and weaving, a prehistoric kitchen garden, and visits to the UNESCO site.
