About the museum
The museum was founded in 1980 as a museum of sacred art, “San Clemente”, on the initiative of two local priests, and was housed in the church of San Clemente in Genga. Today it is located in the historic centre, in Palazzo Fiumi-Sermattei, also called Palazzo Della Genga.
The property belongs to the municipality of Genga, and management is entrusted to the company Grotte di Frasassi. The route includes a prehistoric section, with a picture-based account and a copy of the Venus of Frasassi, and a historical-artistic section with works and artefacts from the 15th to the 19th century.
Among the best-known pieces are the panels by Antonio da Fabriano, a 15th-century painter, and a neoclassical statue of the Madonna and Child.
