About the museum
The park extends in the valley below modern Sassoferrato, where Sentinum stood, a Roman city linked to the historic battle of 295 BC. In that clash, known as the Battle of the Nations, the Romans and their Picene allies defeated the Gallic Senones and the Umbrians, who were allied with Samnites and Etruscans. It was the decisive episode of the Third Samnite War.
Excavations have brought to light paved stretches of the cardo and the decumanus, the baths, part of the city walls and a monumental building outside the walls, identified as a villa or a stopping point for travellers and now displayed in the open air. The medieval complex of Santa Lucia, of the 13th century, built with materials from Sentinum, serves as the visitor reception point.
