About the museum
The Castello degli Avondo, which houses the museum, was built between 1462 and 1467 with the contribution, including voluntary labour, of the people of Serravalle, who feared possible attacks, above all from the Duchy of Milan. It was the residence of the Salomoni counts and was almost entirely destroyed in 1617. It remained in ruins until the mid-19th century, when it was bought by Pietro Avondo, an entrepreneur who owned a paper mill in Serravalle. The Avondo family had it restored in neo-Gothic style by the engineer Costantino Gilodi.
The Museo di storia, d'arte e d'antichità “Don Florindo Piolo” opened in 1958 in three large frescoed rooms on the ground floor of the castle. Today the building is owned by the municipality and, alongside the museum visit, hosts artistic and cultural activities.
