About the museum
The museum was founded in 1973 to collect and preserve the memory of the rural culture of the Bassa Valsesia. It is housed in the east wing of Villa Caccia, a 19th-century building in neoclassical style designed by Alessandro Antonelli and owned by the municipality of Romagnano Sesia. Much of the collection comes from donations by local residents.
The route presents the farming and craft traditions of the area through four sections: rural life, with tools and farm machinery including a 13-metre-long wine press; wine production, with the implements and stages of winemaking; trades, with tools, products and historical photographs; and domestic and social life, with reconstructed rooms such as a kitchen, a bedroom, a school and a tavern.
