About the museum
The museum in Ospitaletto, in the province of Brescia, is dedicated to the sculptor Domenico Ghidoni (born in Ospitaletto in 1857), who made his debut at the Esposizione di Belle Arti di Brera (Brera Fine Arts Exhibition) in 1883 and became linked to social Verism with the work “Emigranti”. He created the monument to Tito Speri and the one to Moretto in Brescia, then worked mainly on commissions for sacred art and funerary monuments, and from 1910 produced many small and medium-sized works, mostly nudes of adolescents and young women.
The museum is housed in Villa Presti, built between 1919 and 1923 by the silk industrialist Federico Serlini, several times mayor and podestà of Ospitaletto, and passed to the Presti family in the seventies. It is thought that the engineer Giovanni Tagliaferri was involved in the project; his wife was the muse of many of Ghidoni’s sculptures.
On the first floor are displayed sculptures such as Testa femminile (1910), Busto di Angela Malaspina (1909), Nudo femminile, Primi passi, Nudo di adolescente (1904) and Figura allegorica. The municipality presents the museum as a shared space for art, music and community activities, with a park open to projects and initiatives.
