About the museum
The Casa Museo Pietro Malossi is located in Ome, in Franciacorta, in the restored Averoldi building that forms part of the Borgo del Maglio. The rooms are furnished in period style and recall the settings in which Andrea Averoldi and Aldina Barbi lived. The museum presents the passion for art of two collectors, the antiques dealer Pietro Malossi and Francesco Medici, and is run by the Fondazione Malossi, which Malossi himself established in Ome in 1998 to promote artistic culture and make his collections accessible to the public.
The route is spread over two floors. On the ground floor visitors see a 16th-century parlour; the weapons room, set in a former stable with double height and devoted to edged weapons from East and West; the room dedicated to Francesco Medici with the tools of his work; a small garden with capitals and holy-water stoups; and a lecture hall. On the first floor are the study with Malossi’s antique books and pen-and-ink drawings, the workshop with his chiselled and inlaid metalwork, a loggia with stone inscriptions and coats of arms, an exhibition room with a 19th-century lithographic press donated by Medici, and the collections room, which presents paintings by theme (landscapes, portraits, sacred painting, painting on glass, icons) and objects of many kinds, from ceramics and medals to ivories and sacred art.
The Malossi Collection exceeds 10,000 pieces, but the museum shows only a small part of it: the rest is kept in storage and displayed in rotation in temporary exhibitions. Information panels and audio guides accompany the visit.
