About the museum

MUSIL – Museo dell’industria e del lavoro is a museum system dedicated to industrial development, with sites in Brescia (under construction in the former Tempini factory), Cedegolo (Museo dell’energia idroelettrica, Hydroelectric Energy Museum), San Bartolomeo (Museo del ferro, Iron Museum) and Rodengo Saiano. The Rodengo Saiano site, in Franciacorta, works as a visitable depot serving the whole system and is presented as “Fabbrica del cinema e magazzino delle macchine” (cinema factory and machine warehouse).

The large hall of around 3,500 m² houses machinery and testimonies of industrial work: among them an Ansaldo armoured car from 1941, an antique lithographic press, the prototype of a caravan and the models of the Caorso and Trino 2 nuclear power plants. Smaller objects document printing, cinema, communications, computing, textiles, tanning and the food industry.

The ground floor houses the reception, a multipurpose room for meetings and concerts and a small workshop; the upper floors hold offices, classrooms and a library. A film laboratory digitises magnetic tapes and has editing equipment for 35 mm and 16 mm film. The permanent exhibition “Dentro il cinema” (Inside the Cinema) tells the history of cinema and includes a 1950s-style projection room where films from the archive can be selected via a touch screen.
