About the museum
The museum is housed in the former women's prison on Via Impallomeni in Milazzo and is looked after by volunteers of the Società Milazzese di Storia Patria. It tells of the farming, craft and seafaring traditions of the town and its area.
The collection includes tools and objects linked to traditional activities, among them boat-building by the shipwrights (maestri d'ascia) and the work of the coopers. A natural history section, curated by the biologist Carmelo Isgrò, displays fossil finds from the headland of Milazzo. A display point dedicated to Luigi Rizzo is located at the Molo Marullo. Visits are free and accompanied by volunteers.
